Kimono – It’s there in the window of practically every high-street store. Asian-inspired silhouettes is the absolute spring trend for 2017 after designers like Diane von Furstenberg, L’Wren Scott and Louis Vuitton featured looks in their collections influenced by the East. The loose-fitting jackets, based on traditional Japanese apparel, have taken the high street by storm. This versatile piece amalgamates with practically everything!
From beachwear or an evening attire or an easy, yet stylish, option to team up with your skinnies and heels . Undoubtedly these days kimonos have taken on a more high fashion air, thanks to high stakes adoptees like Rihanna and Olivia Palermo. Given its distinctive look and exotic origins, Kimonos have been a fashion staple for the boho chic set for a while now.
Although, it wasn’t until this spring that kimonos have become an ‘IT’ item for the season. With floral, lace, and fringe varieties draped on clothing store mannequins, kimonos are so easy to fall in love with. The assortment in stores is amazing and kimonos are available in various materials to choose what suits your body type.
It can be a tricky time to dress up when you simply cannot tackle so many trends and patterns , colours and prints , designs and shapes popping all around – cus it’s finally spring in England . Laziness is a part of the summer accompanied by rains, fashion routine and the frizzy hair and the humidity showing on your face doesn’t help either. But trust your inner Chanel and keep it interesting even in this sunny weather. Try it with shorts, jeans , skirts , cullotoes and the list goes on . So I tried on two different looks flaunting two totally different kimonos.
Kimono teamed up with Skinny Jeans
If you’re not willing to trade your jeans for dresses at outings and parties but aren’t quite sure how to pull ’em off, this look is surely a savage.
The first mix and match is quite simple really, requiring the most basic attire: a T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans. I took the basic colours that included a grey tee and navy blue skinny jeans to team with a kimono with fringes that has quite been in the trend radar lately. It created a perfect street styled look for a brunch or a high tea outing . I almost felt like cheating with this because glamming up the jeans with kiminos and nude heels was too easy!
Quick tip: Any outfit that you would pair with a jeans jacket, replace it with a kimono. It will make a casual outfit sophisticated, trendy and chic. Even sweat pants, a tank, baseball cap and flip-flops would look amazing with a Kimono!
Kimono teamed up with Pleated Skirt
Since kimonos are considered as a summery covering, there are many that are quite sheer. This is perfect to show off clothing you are wearing underneath! Hence for my second look I tried a gorgeous mustard yellow kimino in lace and net that was heavenly . The look turned out to be an absolute dream . I played with colours contrasting my yellow summery jacket and turquoise colour shirt with statement buttons . Teaming up with geometrical print pleated skirt to add up the right amount of jazz to the look . Not to forget the pieces on my neck and wrist that have added oodles of sophistication to the whole attire.
I hope this post makes you go and grab one or few of spring’s must have summery jackets. @zara is killing it with the kiminos they have in their recent collection . I also loved the floral kiminos at @newlookfashion.
